Coptic Binding
Presented by Based Book Arts
Presented by Based Book Arts
Join us for a 2-hour beginner-friendly workshop and discover the ancient art of Coptic binding – a style of bookbinding that traces its origins back to the 2nd century developed by the early Christian Copts of Egypt. Known for its intricate chain-like stitches and exposed spine, Coptic binding is celebrated as some of the earliest forms of the modern codex (the book as we know it today).
In this workshop, you’ll create your own handcrafted journal using the Coptic binding method. This non-adhesive binding style and expose spine allows the book to open completely flat - ideal for writing, sketching, or displaying. Personalise your journal by selecting from a variety of cover papers and thread colours, making your creation one-of-a-kind.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll take home a beautiful and functional journal - perfect as a sketchbook, notebook, or a meaningful handmade gift.
All materials and tools will be provided. This workshop is suitable for beginners, and welcomes participants ages 13 and above. No prior experience is required.
Book size:
105mm x 148mm (A6) • 128 pages
Paper:
300gsm (cover) • 100gsm (pages) • Acid-free • Fountain pen friendly

How To Ink is an experimental printmaking studio in Singapore. Duo Stanley and Jessica advocate for and introduce the tactile craft of printmaking - screen printing, linocut & printing, marbling and papermaking - through beginner-friendly workshops, as well as offering their quaint studio space to experiment. The name is taken from the verbalisation of the Chinese characters 凹凸印 (Āo Tú Yìn), a style of printmaking based on the yin-and-yang principle of utilising positive and negative moulds to produce impressions; a philosophy the pair hopes everyone will embrace in their craft and daily lives.
This workshop is supported by RJ Paper.

French Link Stitch Bookbinding
Presented by Based Book Arts
Presented by Based Book Arts
Join us for a 2-hour beginner-friendly workshop where you’ll learn the fundamentals of bookbinding through the elegant French link stitch – a historic sewing technique that dates back to the 15th century in Europe. Traditionally used in fine bookbinding, this decorative and durable stitch links sections of a book together with a distinctive braided pattern, offering both strength and beauty.
In this workshop, you’ll create your very own handcrafted journal using the French link stitch method. This non-adhesive binding style and expose spine allows the book to open completely flat, making it highly functional as well as elegant. Personalise your journal by choosing between blank or dotted grid pages, and selecting from a variety of thread colours and cover papers to make it uniquely yours.
At the end of the session, you’ll take home a beautiful and functional journal - perfect as a notebook, sketchbook, or a thoughtful handmade gift.
All materials and tools will be provided. This workshop is suitable for beginners, and welcomes participants ages 13 and above. No prior experience is required.
