Publication as Artistic Research and Practice
Gideon-Jamie, Temporary Press
This episode introduces the possibility of the publication as a form of artistic research and creative investigation. It also unpacks the scope of artistic research and the way that enquiries and questions can be pursued and presented through publication and the process of working on it. Crucially, it also hopes to address how the research focus also differs from publication as a form of documenting exhibitions or programmes. It considers as well how the process and the outcome publication informs each other. The case studies are drawn from publications that are centred on research and employ a more exploratory and process-driven approach. It will feature various publication projects in the Singapore Art Book Library or from a collection. The episode will also include a conversation with Gideon—Jamie of Temporary Press to share about their own practice focusing on artistic research and their view on print publishing. To conclude, we will round up key takeaways of the episode and invite viewers to send questions.
